MFIS Board Member Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs
  • Spread Awareness:
    • Inform others about the organization
    • Encourage students participation
    • Recruit volunteers as requested by Recruitment Chair
  • Attend meetings:
    • Submit any applicable updates prior to each meeting
    • Review agenda and supporting materials prior to each meeting
    • Review materials and meeting minutes when unable to attend
  • Serve on committees and offer to take on special assignments
  • Liaise a program:
    • Serve as the point of contact between Board and program chair
    • Present updates on program at Board meetings
    • Ensure that program aligns closely with MFIS mission and vision
  • Suggest possible nominees to the board:
    • Names of those who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and organization
    • Nominating committee to take lead for board recruitment
  • Provide governance to MFIS, represent it to the community, accept legal authority
  • Accept Duties: (Planning/organizations/operations/audit)
    • Review and approve financial goals/budgets
    • Assess MFIS’ strategy/programs
    • Approve major policies
    • Approve major actions/changes
    • Review performance of board/ take steps to improve performance
    • Review program results based on MFIS’ mission statement, annual/long range goals
    • Support financial structure of MFIS for current needs and long-range
    • Provide candid and constructive criticism, advice, comment
    • Stay informed through reports or other methods of the condition of MFIS/ budget status
  • Develop strategic (top-level) policies:  mission, vision, values, strategic goals
